The Snowball

The Snowball refers to a situation where a small issue or rumor quickly escalates and becomes a much bigger problem. It is similar to a snowball rolling down a hill, gathering more snow and getting larger as it goes.

Examples:

Example 1:

Person A: Did you hear that our favorite band is breaking up?
Person B: Really? Im not sure if it’s true or just a rumor.
Person C: I heard it too! They are definitely splitting after the tour.
Person D: Wait, I just saw a tweet saying they might be taking a break, not breaking up!
Person E: This news is spreading like wildfire. I guess we’ll have to wait for an official statement to know for sure.

Example 2:

Person A: My friend said there was a bug in the new software update.
Person B: Really? I haven’t experienced any issues so far.
Person C: I think it’s just a few isolated cases. Not everyone is facing the bug.
Person D: I shared my experience with the bug on a forum, and now people are panicking about it!
Person E: The snowball effect has taken place. The small bug has blown out of proportion, causing unnecessary panic among users.
