The slang term “3-Finger Salute” refers to a gesture made by extending the middle three fingers of the hand, while keeping the thumb and pinky finger curled in. It is often used sarcastically or humorously to express frustration, defiance, or disrespect.

This gesture, also known as the “British V sign” or simply “the finger,” has its origins in medieval times when English longbowmen waved their fingers at French soldiers to show that they still had their fingers intact. Over time, it has evolved into a widely recognized gesture associated with defiance or contempt.

Example 1: When the teacher assigned more homework on a Friday, the student couldn’t resist giving a 3-finger salute behind the teacher’s back.

Example 2: After being criticized by her boss in a staff meeting, Sarah jokingly gave a 3-finger salute to her coworkers to lighten the mood.
