TIL stands for “Today I Learned.” It is commonly used in internet conversations to indicate that the speaker is sharing something they have recently discovered or found interesting. It is often used to share fascinating facts, tidbits, or knowledge gained from personal experiences or research.
Examples:
Example 1:
- TIL that honey never spoils. Archaeologists have found pots of honey in ancient Egyptian tombs that are over 3,000 years old and still perfectly edible!
- TIL that NASA invented a material called aerogel, which is the lightest solid known to exist. It is so light that if you were to hold a block of aerogel, it would feel like holding air!
Example 2:
- TIL that octopuses have three hearts. Two hearts pump blood to each of their gills, while the third heart is responsible for circulating oxygenated blood to the rest of their body.
- TIL that the Great Wall of China is not visible from space as popularly believed. According to NASA astronauts, it is extremely difficult to see the wall with the naked eye from the low Earth orbit.
