Splitting hairs means to argue or debate over trivial or insignificant details. It refers to the act of dissecting a topic into smaller, often pedantic, parts in order to find faults or discrepancies.

Examples:
1. Person A: I thought your presentation was great, but you mispronounced one word.
Person B: Really? You’re just splitting hairs now. I don’t think that one minor mistake ruins the entire presentation.

2. Person X: This new movie is amazing, but there was one scene where a characters shirt color changed suddenly.
Person Y: Come on, stop splitting hairs! It doesn’t affect the storyline or the quality of the film.
