Speak Of The Devil

In internet slang, “Speak Of The Devil” means mentioning someone and then they appear, seemingly coincidentally. It is commonly used to express surprise or amusement when the person being talked about suddenly shows up. Here are two practical examples:

Example 1:

Person A: Hey, have you seen John today?
Person B: Speak Of The Devil, here he comes!

In this example, Person A mentions John, and just as Person B uses the phrase “Speak Of The Devil,” John shows up.

Example 2:

Text message from Person A: I can’t believe how clumsy Sarah is, she always spills her drink.
Text message from Person B: Haha, Speak Of The Devil, she just spilled her drink again!

Person A talks about Sarah’s clumsiness, and Person B responds with “Speak Of The Devil” when Sarah spills her drink once more shortly after the conversation.

Synonyms:
devil, mentioned, talked about, reference, brought up
