Shoes on a wire is a term referring to when someone throws a pair of shoes over a telephone wire, usually as a form of vandalism or to mark gang territory.

Examples:

1. I saw a bunch of shoes on a wire while walking through the city. It must be a rough neighborhood.

2. The kids in the neighborhood thought it would be funny to throw their old sneakers on a wire, much to the annoyance of the residents.
