Reply Guy is a term used to describe someone, usually a man, who consistently and excessively responds to other people’s online posts or comments, often in a way that is attention-seeking or seeking validation. These individuals commonly offer unsolicited advice, irrelevant anecdotes, or attempt to divert the conversation to themselves. They tend to comment on a wide range of topics, even those they may not have expertise in, simply to be noticed or gain attention. Reply Guys often disregard the original context or intention of the post and are more focused on putting themselves at the center of the conversation.

Examples:

A person shares a tweet about their personal experience dealing with anxiety. A Reply Guy might respond with, “That’s nothing, I once had a panic attack ten years ago, and let me tell you, it was way worse!” This individual seeks attention by trying to redirect the conversation to their own experience, disregarding the initial post’s purpose of sharing a personal story.
In a discussion about climate change and its impacts, someone shares a well-researched article presenting scientific evidence. A Reply Guy might reply with something like, “Climate change is a hoax, and scientists are just after money. It’s all a big conspiracy!” This person, lacking knowledge or expertise on the topic, tries to draw attention to themselves by contradicting established facts and derailing the conversation’s focus.
