Reality check: A phrase used in internet slang to remind someone to face or consider the actual facts and situations in life, rather than succumbing to unrealistic or idealistic beliefs.

Examples:

1. After spending hours dreaming about becoming a famous singer, Sarah’s friend gave her a reality check by reminding her about the importance of talent and hard work.

2. When Mark insisted that he could finish his project in a day, his co-worker gave him a reality check by pointing out the complexity of the task and the limited time available.
