The internet slang term “prenup” is short for “prenuptial agreement.” It refers to a legal contract signed by a couple before getting married or entering a civil partnership. The purpose of a prenup is to establish the division of assets and determine financial arrangements in case the relationship ends in divorce or separation.

Examples:

1. Mike and Sarah are getting married next month, and they want to protect their individual assets. They decided to consult a lawyer to draft a prenup to ensure a fair distribution of their property in case of a breakup.

2. John’s friend told him about the importance of having a prenup before getting married. Although John initially thought it was unnecessary, he now understands the benefits and plans to discuss it with his partner.
