Out Of Your League

Out Of Your League: When someone is considered to be “out of your league,” it means they are perceived as being more attractive, intelligent, or successful than you are. It implies that pursuing a romantic or social relationship with them would be unlikely to succeed due to a perceived imbalance in qualities or status. Here are two practical examples illustrating the use of this term:

1. John saw Emily, the most popular girl in school, and thought she was stunning. However, he considered himself shy and less outgoing. John’s friends teased him, saying, “Dude, Emily is way out of your league. You don’t stand a chance.”

2. Laura, who was new to her workplace, had a huge crush on her supervisor, Alex. She felt he was incredibly intelligent and attractive, while she considered herself inexperienced and less accomplished. Laura’s colleague whispered to her, “You’re aiming too high, Alex is well out of your league. It’s better not to get your hopes up.”

John’s friends imply that Emily’s attractiveness and popularity surpass his own.
Laura’s colleague suggests that Alex’s intelligence and experience are on a different level compared to hers.
