Negging is a type of manipulation tactic used in online dating or social interactions where a person tries to undermine someones self-confidence or self-esteem to make them more vulnerable or seek approval. It involves giving backhanded compliments or making subtle insults disguised as compliments.

Examples:

1. He tried negging me by saying, “Youre pretty for a girl who’s not really my type.” His intention was to make me doubt my attractiveness and seek validation from him.

2. She used negging as a way to control the conversation. She said, “Your profile picture is alright, but I prefer guys who are more athletic-looking.” It was an attempt to make me feel insecure and gain her attention.
