Gatekeeper means a person who tries to control who counts as a real fan, who belongs in a space, or who gets access to knowledge, taste, or status.
You usually call someone a gatekeeper when they make up extra rules for belonging: what you had to watch first, how long you had to be into it, or what opinions you're "allowed" to have. Socially, gatekeeper is a call-out word.
It paints the person as insecure, controlling, or obsessed with protecting their niche instead of letting people enjoy it. In some circles, people also use it half-jokingly for someone who keeps a favorite spot, artist, or brand lowkey on purpose, but the main read is still criticism.
