Contagious is an internet slang term used to describe anything that spreads rapidly or goes viral online. It refers to content, ideas, trends, or behaviors that quickly gain popularity and get shared or imitated by a large number of people on the internet.

Examples:

Imagine you come across a hilarious video on social media that makes you burst into laughter. You can then use “contagious” to describe the video, meaning it’s so funny that you believe others will also find it amusing and want to share it with their friends. It’s the kind of content that can quickly spread and become popular as more people watch and share it.

For instance:

“Have you seen that new comedy sketch? It’s absolutely contagious, you have to watch it!”
“This meme is going to be contagious – I can already see it being shared everywhere.”

On the other hand, the term “contagious” can also be used to describe a positive behavior or trend that starts online and then spreads offline. For instance, if a challenge asking people to perform acts of kindness gains traction on social media, you may say it’s contagious because it inspires people to participate and do kind gestures in their everyday lives.

For example:

“The ‘Pay It Forwardmovement is so contagious; it’s heartwarming to see people spreading kindness and helping others.”
“The simple act of strangers leaving inspirational notes in public places has become contagious in our community.”

Synonyms:
viral, trendy, infectious
