The internet slang termCompais short forcompadreor “compañero” which means friend or buddy. It is commonly used in Spanish-speaking online communities as a way to refer to a close friend or someone you have a good relationship with. Here are two examples of how this term can be used:

Example 1:

Person A: ¡Hola compa! ¿Qué tal estás hoy?
Person B: ¡Hola! Todo bien, compa. ¿Y tú?

Translation:

Person A: Hey buddy! How are you doing today?
Person B: Hey! All good, buddy. And you?

Example 2:

Person A: Voy a salir a cenar con mis compas esta noche.
Person B: ¡Qué chido, compa! Pásenla bien.

Translation:

Person A: Im going out to dinner with my friends tonight.
