Burning the midnight oil refers to staying up late to work or study.

This slang term is commonly used to describe the act of working or studying late into the night, often sacrificing sleep or leisure time. It originated from the literal act of burning oil lamps or candles late in the night to continue working or studying.

Example 1: I have a big exam tomorrow, so I’ll be burning the midnight oil to make sure I’m fully prepared.
