Bluff is a slang term that means to deceive or mislead someone, often by pretending to have a stronger hand or more knowledge than one actually possesses. It is commonly used in the context of poker and other games involving strategy and deception.

In a bluff, a person tries to convince others that they have a better hand or more information than they actually do, in order to make them fold or make decisions that benefit the bluffer. Bluffing requires good acting skills and the ability to read opponents and their reactions. It is a high-stakes tactic often used in competitive settings.

Example 1: “John bluffed his way through the poker game, making everyone believe he had the winning hand, when in reality, he had a weak hand.”

Example 2: “The politician bluffed about his knowledge of the subject during the debate to make himself appear more competent than he actually was.”
