Alabama Hot Potato is a slang term used to describe a risky or unwanted situation or task that is quickly passed on to someone else. It implies that the situation is undesirable and that the person passing it on wants to avoid the consequences.

In some situations, people may find themselves stuck with an Alabama Hot Potato, such as when a difficult customer complaint arises and they try to transfer it to a colleague. The term can also be used metaphorically to refer to an undesirable responsibility that someone tries to avoid, like a challenging project or task at work that is quickly delegated to another team member.

Example 1: “When the manager found out about the mistake, he played an Alabama Hot Potato and passed the blame onto the inexperienced intern.”
Example 2: “After finding out about the extra workload, Sarah tried to pull an Alabama Hot Potato and assigned the project to her colleague without discussing it with them.”
